stars
(for arther c clarke)
"My God! It's full of stars!"
"Are
you sure you're making the right decision?"
twinkle,
twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky
twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
"I
can see you're really upset about this...
I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly...
take a stress pill and think things over"
star
light star bright,
first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
have the wish I wish tonight.
star light star bright,
first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
have the wish I wish tonight.
"...think
things over"
"Are you sure you're making the right decision?"
when
the blazing sun has gone, When he nothing shines upon
then you light your little light, twinkle, twinkle in the night
twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
...twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
"Will I Dream? Will I Dream? Will I Dream? Will I Dream?"
twinkle,
twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are
up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky
twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are...
bagi says:
i wrote a piece of music a couple of years ago, a piano instrumental with the name "to the stars once more", and i thought that it was good. Good because it was sad and expressive and it said what i intended it to - at least to me...
since then the music has been remixed a couple of times: a dance version by my mate 'solar polar' and more recently by bobbi and retitled "wagon train to the stars once more". And lo i thought these also were good! (read the story about the oposable thumbs, you will lol.) But still no lyrics.
and then there was "stars". a completely different version of the same original theme, this time sprinkled with a generous helping of sci-fi movie quotes. and still no lyrics. well, none written by us anyway, i was messing about with a melody line over the top of the music and it was twinkle twinkle little star - well it just seemed to work. and it pleased me because i didn't have to write lyrics hehe despite being encouraged to do so. oh and when i recorded the vocal for this i was lying on the floor on a blanket imagining i was singing to a sleepy little boy. it's method vocals! i'd like to say thank you to my beloved son Stevie for the use of his guest vocals (recorded when he was 3)
we would like to dedicate this song to Arthur C. Clarke. thank you for the worlds you created. rip.

bobbi says:
not much
i can add to this...
Arthur died today, he was 90 years old, he was well respected and loved the
world over and he will surely be missed by millions, but he left a wealth
of writings for the world to treasure...
Arthur C Clarke was one of my first inspirations when i was a boy, i had a
thirst for scifi that i couldn't quench, and though i didn't realise it at
the time, i had a passion for science too...
ACC helped fill my head with dreams and ideas, for which i'll be forever grateful...
we'd planned this song to go on the GEEK album, but pulled it at the last minute due to the samples, without the samples from 2001 and 2010 the song just lacked a certain something, and with the passing of Arthur we felt it was a perfect way for us to bid him farewell on his journey to the stars...
